Ghost in the Shell Scene in a Dr. Seuss Art Style

This is a time-lapse of my process for (trying) to recreate the waterway/alley background from Ghost in the Shell in a Dr. Seuss style for my indie game. This took me a total of 8 hours to make. I'm absolutely no artist by any means, but I enjoyed the process.

This was an interesting project for me as I hadn't done anything like this before. It was particularly challenging (aside from ALL OF THOSE ADVERTISEMENTS) to find a good balance between the detail rich environment of Ghost in the Shell and the more simplistic style of Dr Seuss.

To accommodate, I ended up leaving the walls with minimal amounts of grime, pipes and wires while keeping most of the advertisements.

I started out recreating the advertisements exactly; meaning re-drawing all of the ads word for word (kanji for kanji?). However, I realized that it would be a good idea to incorporate the core concepts of my game into the ads, which would be 'printers' and related work/office material.

Sometimes it was challenging to come up with so many logos as well!

I also had fun designing with random shapes and playing with letter shapes.

I hope to place this in the game pretty soon, with some additional water animation (splashes and foot trails for simulating a moving body of water effect).

About the Game: Project DSS

This is a 2D platformer shooter game I'm developing with Unity, and I have it uploaded on itch.io right now. I try to update it ever so often when I can. I'm drawing influences from Ratchet and Clank, Cuphead, Metroid and others.
